Love the Hudson Crossbody. Functions are perfect. Plenty of room inside. The auto close and latch are a great feature.
My only suggestion is to have specific compartments on the inside for pens, reading glasses, etc.
I use the Hudson Crossbody everyday. Best bag I have ever used.
Gorgeous, practical and very easy to use. There are just enough pockets pouches and storage options without being overwhelming. My favourites though are the super easy fidlock magnet closure, the back slip pocket and the strap which evenly distributes weight. The brown grizzly is easily the best color but I have it in black too for more formal occasions.
I own a shamefully large number of Waterfield bags (and loads of other designers as well), but this is by far my favorite as an everyday carry (EDC). The design is incredibly thoughtful and each tactile element is a delight to use. It took about a day to get used to sliding open the buckle, but after the short learning curve it is a quick and easy one-handed operation. The way it magnetically snaps back into place once let go of is an audible treat and so convenient. The brilliant buckle, combined with the perfectly calibrated magnets holding the top of the bag closed, strike an exquisite balance where: 1) with a mug of coffee in one hand I can still use my other hand to open it up, access the bag, and allow it to self-close back while 2) still being completely secure and airtight when closed. Nothing fiddly.
The bag is tiny, but I regularly put in it: 1) an iPad mini with smart cover and Apple Pencil in the dedicated internal sleeve, 2) an Ayn Thor or other retro gaming handheld, 3) a glasses case, and 4) an assortment of small stuff in the zipper pouch (pens, AirPods, knife, Epipen, chapstick, keys etc). The outer pocket has a slim notebook slid in with room to spare.
I have never owned a bag that struck such a perfect balance of size and capacity, while at the same time being quite possibly the most beautiful bag Waterfield has ever made. It is a joy to use
I absolutely love this bag! It holds a good amount, and the sleek, minimalist design with no logos gives it such a timeless, stylish look. The leather is beautiful and high quality, and the swivel strap is a thoughtful detail that makes it even more functional. I’ve already received so many compliments on it!
I wanted a sturdy, smaller bag to take a minimal number of items out - an iPad mini, a small camera, and a few extras, and this is essentially perfect. The craftsmanship feels great and the design is really enjoyable to use and it is really easy to quickly grab my camera or something when I need it while still feeling like the bag and items inside are secure. I also particularly appreciate the metal-on-metal attachment point design for the crossbody strap as it feels much more durable than the typical fabric-on-metal loops that my other bags use - and this is the part I find typically wears out first and becomes annoying to deal with.
WaterField Hudson Leather Crossbody Review: A Handsome, Handcrafted EDC Bag That Marries Luxury and Function
Gear Diary - November 11, 2025
“the clean lines and finish of the leather make it the kind of item that commands restrained attention. It’s not a bag searching for compliments, but it offers a level of depth and character that promises to impress.”

Design details
HERITAGE MEETS INNOVATION
The Hudson blends heritage craftsmanship with modern conveniences for a unique look. Instead of a zipper, it has a novel magnetic closure using a string of rare-earth magnets. Simply slip your hand into the Crossbody to retrieve your phone, camera, or other necessities.
EASY-CLOSE FLAP
A modern-day magnetic Fidlock buckle secures the double-layer leather flap with very little effort.
To open, simply slide the buckle to the left. To close, the two sides are magnetically drawn together and will shut automatically with a satisfying click.
FULL-GRAIN LEATHER
The authentic, full-grain leather we use to make the Hudson Crossbody is absolutely beautiful. See it, touch it, and you'll be hooked.
The distressed leather develops a beautiful patina, and your bag will age well as the years roll by.
ALL-LEATHER COLLECTION
The All-Leather Collection brings together premium full-grain leather designs that balance refined style, everyday functionality, and rugged dependability. Each bag is built to last, with smart details that make everyday carry easier. Check out the full collection.
HOW YOUR CROSSBODY GETS MADE
Here's a glimpse of how our design team developed the Hudson Crossbody from idea to reality. Their creative process involves hands-on work every step of the way as they dial down the design to create something beautiful and functional.
CARING FOR YOUR LEATHER BAG
We usually recommend not doing anything to the full-grain leather of your Hudson Crossbody, letting it develop its own beautiful patina. However, you may want to freshen it up a bit with a leather conditioner. Gary shows you how in this video for the Cozmo Leather Briefcase.
The leather may darken a bit, so test the reaction first on a spot that's not highly visible, like the bottom of the bag. For the distressed leather we use, you can spread the oils around and smooth them out with heat from a hair dryer.
made in usa
We're proud to offer American-made gear built for the long haul. All our products are designed and made in our San Francisco workshop, where rent is high, labor expensive, and competition intense. We wouldn't go anywhere else.
